- John Bruton, 87 died peacefully in his sleep on February 2, 2012 at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Florida. Mr. Bruton was a veteran of WWII who saw action in the Pacific while serving aboard the USS South Dakota for which he received a Purple Heart and a Naval Unit Commendation. Following his service, he spent many years in the Merchant Marine, and then retired in 1984 from United Airlines. In retirement he enjoyed painting in oils, watercolors and sculpture. His oils and water colors in particular have been recognized in several Manatee County Fairs. He is survived by his loving wife Eunice to whom he was married for 64 years, son John Kenneth Bruton and daughter Karen Zale, three grandchildren and one great grandson. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, February 6th at noon at Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1221 53rd St., E., Bradenton, FL. Following the service the family will observe shiva at their Bradenton home.
