  • Another interesting family story was that W. F Chandler went to meet a train that was bringing his marriage license from Ark. (no state govt. in OK at the time so legal papers for the Indian Terr., were done in Ft. Smith AR). He knew the local Federal Marshal there in McAllister, who invited him and his friend to spend the time in his office while he waited, for a second late night train, since the afternoon train did not have the license. At the office was an old man that was reporting in because he was on parole, and he had picked that Marshal to report in to because they had served in the Civil War together. He was Frank James - the famous brother of the famous Jesse James.  Source: William F. Chandler
