The Ohio Repository (Canton, OH) for 19 Dec 1855 mentions a Samuel WISE under rubric of town lots, Fulton in Lawrence township, and also Greenburg in Lake township.

The Ohio Repository (Canton, OH) for 26 Dec 1855 mentions a Samuel W. WISE in Greentown, Lake township, and a Jacob H. WISE in Marlborough, Marlborough township (as subscribers?). Same edition cites Samuel as delinquent in taxes on a town lot in Mt. Union, Washington township, and Jacob H. WISE as same on a town lot in Strasburg, Washington township.

The Ohio Repository (Canton, OH) for 19 Dec 1855 mentions a Samuel W. WISE under rubric Sale of Lands and Town Lots Delinquent for Taxes for 1854 and 1855. Samuel is owner of a town lot in Mt. Union, Washington township, Stark County.

from researcher Pam Shelton-Anderson: I believe Samuel was a member of the Accomack co Wises who heavily used the names Tully R and George Washington in male members. The entire Wise family had an aversion to tombstones since the burial places of most members of Samuel's family is unknown. (...) No probate records can be found for them (or their children). No obituaries or cemetery records can be found in Ripley county for any of these Wises. The elder Wise children were born in Ohio (probably Montgomery co) and Samuel lived for several years in Franklin county.

Pam Shelton-'Anderson to CMB 3/06:
Since it is obvious that Samuel and Elizabeth were in Ohio after Virginia and prior to Indiana, I started looking there. As you know there is no extant 1810 census for Ohio, so I started with all of the Samuel Wises
in the 1820. Parker would have been born about 1809 in Ohio, Charles in 1819 and Tully in 1822. They would have had daughters born here too, but since they were out of the household by 1850, I have not been able to place
some of the Wise females who married in Ripley co IN prior to 1850 with this family -- needs more research.

In 1820 Ohio there were these Samuel Wises:
1) Montgomery Co OH: Deed records there show he had a wife Elizabeth but after quite a bit of research, I found that this Samuel Wise and his wife Elizabeth Wolf were from Pennsylvania and ended up in Carroll co IN (I
actually found this by accident researching another family of mine that was in Carroll co IN).
2) Belmont co OH: In 1820 had no young sons in his household. There is a land patent in Belmont co OH in 1825 for an Elizabeth Wise who was probably his widow.
3) Gallia co OH: Also no young sons on 1820
4) Cheshire co OH: No young sons in 1820
5) Clermont co OH:    Had this enumeration: Samuel Wise 2-1-0-0-1-0 1-1-0-1-0, which makes him very possible as our Samuel. By 1830, our Samuel was in Franklin County, Indiana. The Montgomery co Samuel was enumeration both still in Mont co OH and also in Carroll co IN.

Of the Clermont co records:
From the Court of Common Pleas, p 104: Letters of administration were issued to Henry Wise for the estate of William Wise, late of this county deceased. Widow of said deceased has relinquished her right in open court to administer said estate. Henry Wise paid bond of 1200 dollars with Wyatt Circus and William Ritchey as his securities. Estate to be appraised by Wiatt Owens, David Miller and William Richey.

Clermont County Ohio Pioneers 1798-1812 by Alice Whitt has a Henry Wise on the tax lists in 1810.

Clermont co OH Deeds: Thomas Wise, 1845; No Wises in the 1800-1830 indexes. [CMB note: 1850 for Miami, Clermont, OH has painter Thomas WISE 38 VA with Susan 37 OH, Margaret J 14 OH, James P 13 OH, William B 11 OH, Mary C 9 OH, Lewis H 6 (?) OH, John E 2 OH. No other WISE (exact) in Clermont, OH in 1850.]

Clermont co OH Marriages: Henry Wise to Elizabeth Vandike 13 April 1816 (probably the same Henry as in the 1810 tax list)

Charles Burgess to Peggy Wise 27 Dec 1820. I find this one very interesting in light of the Job Burgess aged 27 who was living in the household of Charles B Wise in Ripley co IN in 1850 and could have been a son of the couple above. This is also a possible link between the
Clermont co Samuel and the Ripley.

Clermont co OH Probate, have a William Wise 18 Nov 1823 but I have not been able to find the actual records here in SLC. Obviously hoping for some mention of his children or siblings.

Clermont co OH tax records: Samuel Wise and Charles Wise are found 1820 to 1824. Then Samuel 1825 and not found after. Our Samuel is found in Fayette co IN in 1825 and his sons George and Jonathan were born there.

1820 Clermont, OH has a Charly WISE 00-0-10100201-0-2-0-0, if standard breakdown begins at 4th position: 1 free white male 0-10, 1 free white male 16-26 (1794-1804) (Charly), then? Immed nbrs Leonard HEPLER, George BARNHART. Columns not labeled on this or first pg of record. This pg labeled "Franklin Township." CF our Samuel b est 1785 VA.
