    Spaulding [sic]
       Hilory Spaulding died of paralysis Friday at 7:30 p.m. at his home in east Loogootee.  Mr. Spaulding, who was generally known as "Uncle Hilory" was a resident of this section for many years and was loved and respected by all who knew him.  He was always of a genial and friendly disposition and up to about a year or so ago was hale and hearty for a man of his age.  He was 81 years old at his death.  The interment took place at St. Mary's near former loved ones last Sunday, after services at the church by Rev. Fr. J. McCabe.
       May this good old man rest in peace.
    
    [note by NMBaker]:  Martin County Death Record #9, page 4 - Hilory Spaulding died 13 Oct 1899.  Buried 15 Oct 1899 St. Mary's.  Age 81 years 9 months, was a widower, born in Kentucky.  Parents were James I. Spaulding, Va. and Julia Montgomery, Md.

    JOHN V. SPALDING, superintendent of the Poor Asylum of Daviess County, Ind., was born in Martin Conty, Ind., October 13, 1836. He was the eldest of a famly of six children born to Hillary and Mary (STRANGE) Spalding, who were natives of Washington County, Ky. They wre married in Daviess County, Ind., and lived two years in Martin County, when they returned to Daviess County, and are yet residing there. The father and mother were born about 1816 and 1814, respectively. John V. was reared on his father's farm, and secured such education as could be obtained in the subscription schools of early times.
