    "Loogootee Tribune, Loogootee, IN, Thurs. 11 Jan 1968, John Ernest Mattingly, 71, Loogootee Rte. 2, died suddenly at his residence at 2:30 p.m. Monday.  He had been in failing health for several months.
       A veteran of WWI, Mr. Mattingly owned and operated the Mattingly Feed Store in Loogootee.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Barr township.
       Mr. Mattingly was born in Daviess county September 16, 1896, a son of Sidney and Catherine E. (Dowling) Mattingly.  His first marriage was to Susan Lannan, who preceded him in death.  He then married Mary B. Kavanaugh, also deceased.
        He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Sheetz, Shoals; Miss Patricia Mattingly, at home; Mrs. Agnes Tennis, Washington; Mrs. Dorothy Ellis and Mrs. Rita Elliott, both of South Bend; Mrs. Alberta Baker, Indianapolis; six sons, Norbert, Loogootee Rte. 1; John K. and Gerald P., both of Loogootee Rte. 2; Bernard, Loogootee Rte. 4; Timothy J., Chicago, Illinois and Joseph L. at home.  He also leaves thirty-five grandchildren, one brother, Dowling Mattingly, Loogootee Rte. 2 and one sister, Mrs. Cora Fitzmaurice, Loogootee.  One son, Francis, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Alma Melton, two brother and one sister are deceased.

Kavanaugh:  Wasington Democrat, 66-187, Washington, IN, Mon. 12 Jan 1953:  d. 9:15 a.m. Sun. 11 Jan 1953, "47 year old wife of John Mattingly, operator and owner of a feed store," d/o late Lawrence and Agnes (Healy) Kavanaugh, survived by mother, husband and children Beatrice, Francis, Bernard, Gerld, Timothy, Patricia Ann, Veronica Agnes, Dorothy Jean, Alberta, Joseph, Rita Jo, all at home, and son John Kavanaugh, airman 3rd class, with Air Force in Okinawa, plus stepchildren Norbert and Mrs. Mary Alma Melton, RR2, Loogootee, nine stepgrandchildren, one grandchild.  Bros and sisters are Timothy, Joseph, George Kavanaugh, Cannelburg, Mrs. Veronica Eichmiller, RR1, Montgomery, Mrs. John C. Matthews, RR 2, Loogootee, and Mrs. Kenneth Dowling, Wayne, Michigan.  DCDR CH13-61.
