    ANSWER:  I have him as the firstborn of Robert Hammett (b. ca. 1726)
    and Sythe Bethel (no other info on her except for a date of death, 1790). 
    Robert and Sythe were married about 1740, possibly in Georgia, and they
    had four other children -- one of whom (Edward Hammett) was born in
    Georgia in 1745 and his descendents are the tie that leads to the Barnett
    family).  Other than Edward, Robert Bethel Hammett's other siblings
    were sisters Susannah and Sytha (see below); and another brother William.
