Note from Tony MALTA: I have two doubts about the date of marriage (m. May 6, 1800) to Nancy Fluker: two other children were born to a James Hammett, (no mother named): William (b. ca. 1796 at GA.) and Sally (b. ca. 1800 at GA). In the genealogy game everybody counts in nine month increments after every wedding date -- but four-yeaqr gestations before marriages are extremely rare -- except in some very special cases, and these
do require extra thinking and re-thinking.

1830 US Census in GA has best match in Gwinnett Cty with John HAMIT age 20-30 (1800-1810) 20001-10001, which could indicate Nathan 1825, James 1827, John 1802, Sarah 1829 and Mary Polly 1804. Next entry is Jas HAMIT age 60-70 (1760-1770) 100120001-000010001 (Roll: 17; Page: 378), which could include dtr Sally 1801. Wilkes, GA has only William HAMMETT; no entries for Wilkinson, GA. Warren, GA (directly S of Wilkes) has Jno HAMMIT age 60-70 (1760-1780) 000000001-000010001 (Roll: 21; Page: 225) and Thos HAMMET. Franklin, GA has James HAMMETT. Carroll, GA has James HMET. 1830 GA has 25 ECHOLS enumerants (soundex), with concentration in Wilkes: Elijah, Nathaniel J in District 166; James, Sarah, and Van Allen in District 168; and another Elijah in District 180. No ECHOLS in Gwinnett.

1820 US Census has best match in Wilkes, GA in Jae HAMMETT, but note there is no male of John 1802's age: 29 from top, 30001(-)02001(-)00(margin)2etc., thus 3 males 0-10 (1810-1820), one male > 45 (< 1775) (James), two females 10-16 (1804-1810), one female > 45 (< 1775). No other HAMMETT (soundex) in Wilkes. On same page is Jas ECHOLS, 7 from top, 00111(-)13101(-)00(margin)001etc. Other ECHOLS enumerants in Wilkes are Edward (2), Mary, Nathan, Reuben, Thos and Levi H. Wilkes also has Isaac FLUKER 32221(-)11101(-)00.

Note on 1820 census: Enumerators of the 1820 census were asked to include the following categories in the census: name of head of household, number of free white males and females in age categories: 0 to 10, 10 to 16, 16 to 26, 26 to 45, 45 and older; number of other free persons except Indians not taxed; number of slaves; and town or district and county of residence.
