Carol Aldinger's online posting claims Ezekiel had an older brother named William Jacob b 1775 SC, and a brother James b 1778 SC, but there is no documentation to substantiate that claim.

Tony Malta on tombstone, 6/06:
Two of the oldest gravestones in the Barnett Cemetery have to be that of Ezekiel Barnett and the one next to his (photo has Fran trying to read the stone) for somebody named Olive (Barnett) -- it is too weathered
to make out much more than that first name.

Ezekiel's stone however, is very readable:

"EZEKIEL BARNETT

JULY 17, 1871
AGED 92 YRS" the "92" looks like it had been re-cut over "99".

The "92 YRS" looks like it was added later -- or at least not at the
sae time as the other engraved words -- it is in a different typeface
that the other wording and looks a bit cleaner. Perhaps somebody re-cut
the stone to correct a typo or the wrong number since the "2" actually
can be mistaken for a "9" (Aged 99 yars?) which may have been what it
originally read ...

Fran really tried to see anything else on the "Olive" stone but it is
badly weathered and the stone is too soft to even tell anything else.

Will proven and recorded 15 Dec 1871. Heirs are daughter Loucinda DAVIS, widow of Charles DAVIS; daughter Parry MC CLURE, widow of William MC CLURE; son Irvin Y. BARNETT; son Asa F. BARNETT; daughter Elvina BARNETT, single; and daughter Sarah Ann HERMAN, widow of Stephen HERMAN. Also named (as receiving "only the sum of one dollar & no more") is daughter Eliza WHITE, wife of William WHITE. Executors are sons Irvin and Asa.

There is an Ezekial BARNETT mentioned in the will of Elias EARLE, signed 2 Feb 1823 and proven 2 Jun 1823, which refers to "land purchased from Robert Anderson near Ezekial Barnett's fence and Carter's Branch." (Land apparently willed to decedent's grandson Elias Henry TILLINGHAST.)

I found that in 1800 in Pendleton, one of Amos BARNETT's immediate neighbors was Enoch EARLEY; and that in 1790 in Pendleton, one of John BARNETT's immediate neighbors was Patrick EARLY.

"Next Deed of Gift...JAMES BARNETT to SILAS PITTS, son-in-law and REBECCA, his wife, TILMON, LANDY, ASA, WILEY (sic), and JANE BARNETT, tract on Tugaloo River, 200 acres, condition that I live on land, after my death to be sold to highest bidder and money divided equally. Pitts (PO Box 26, Lowndesboro, AL, 16752) seeks information on the parents of Silas Pitts, born in SC c 1786, was in Pendleton District in 1812, married Rebecca Barnett, daughter of James Barnett. He moved to Alabama in 1813, believed to be Tallapoosa County, to Pike County, AL in 181 and to Shelby Co., AL in 1837. Silas and Rebecca Barnett had known children: Harvey W., Carey W., Warren, Emily Eliza, Mary, Kindred A., Silas Perry, and Frances Marion Pitts. According to his will, Silas was married to Nancy (?) at the time of his death in 1859 and other documents indicate that children Mariah W. Pitts and John B. Pitts were theirs. researcher Loyd BARNETT:
from "Pendleton District, South Carolina Deeds 1790-1806," I made copies of all the ones I found with a Barnett listed and subsequently I have found some of the same ones, plus a few missed, somewhere on the web and downloaded them.   In the deeds from 1790 to 1806 I found one 1802 reference to Ezekiel being a witness for a sale from Thomas Hopson to William Prince of a parcel which was adjacent to one owned by James Barnett and located on 23 Mile Creek, tributary to Savannah River. (CMB note: Ezekiel 1779 SC would have been about 23 years old, thus of age, in 1802.)

demographics: The 1790 census also includes a concentration of BARNET/T/E h/holds in neighborning Spartanburg County: Chars, Edward, Elijah, James, John (2x), Joriel, Joseph, Micaiah, Sarah, Thomas, Thos BARNET, plus Daniel BARNETT; in Union County, which nbrs Spartanburg: Ambrose, Wm BARNET and Isaac BARNETT; and in York, which nbrs both Union and Spartanburg: Thos BARNET. York is in Camden District, which includes three more h/holds: Jas, Wm, James BARNET. Elisha, William and Ann BARNETT head h/holds in Charleston, some distance away to the SE. In the contemporary (1780-1800) neighboring counties in NC -- Rutherford, Lincoln and Mecklenburg -- we find David (2x), Martn, and Wm Jr BARNETT and Biram BARNET (Rutherford); Sion and Wm BARNETT (Lincoln); and John BARNETT, plus Hugh, John (2x), Robert (3x) BARNET h/holds (Mecklenburg). There is also a separate concentration of 18 BARNETT h/holds to the NE, on the VA border, in Caswell and Granville Counties, but with some different first names: Andrew, David, Hugh (3x), John (5x), Joseph, Thomas (4x), William. Together these represent almost all of the BARNET/T/E h/holds in the Carolinas in 1790.

According to the information on Mic Barnette's DNA page where the results of Barnett DNA project are posted. Irvin Yancy Barnett buried in Barnett cemetery is the son of Ezekiel Barnett also buried there. There are four matches in this line per DNA tests. Mark Barnett, an uncle of Sherry Bowers, Loyd Barnett and I all match 37/37. Mark descends from Nathan born 1819 SC, Sherry's uncle descends from James born 1766, Cross Keys, SC m. Isabella Johnston, Loyd descends from Ezekiel b 1777 SC m. Olive ?, and I descend from Uriah b. 1783 SC. m. Keziah ?. Uriah and Keziah died in Neshoba County, Mississippi.
We are in the process of finding our most recent common ancestor.
If you have any information on these Barnetts we could certainly use the help.

5 Oct.1818 Franklin Co. Lance James BARNETT aged 66 stated he enlisted in South Carolina under Capt. Richard DOGGETT of the 6th S.C. Regiment, commanded by Col. William HENDERSON. He served 3 years. During the siege of Charlestown he was taken prisoner and held 20 days until he was honorably discharged at Charlestown probably in 1780. He enlisted again in North Carolina for one year under Capt. Charles LENNING (?) and was in a battle at Eutaw Springs. He was discharged at Bacon's Ridge in South Carolina.
10 Oct. 1818 Franklin County Judge John CAPERTON, Esquire, testifies that BARNETT has lived near him for six months and he knows BARNETT to be a very old, poor man with good, honest character.
12 Oct. 1818 (probably Franklin County) John A. BAKER states he lived in North Carolina in the same neighborhood as BARNETTT for several years before and after the last tour of duty, and has known him ever since. (Note: Franklin Cty is located on TN's southern flank, three counties east of Lawrence Cty.)

Pendleton District was located in northwestern SC (see below). This area in the northwestern corner of the state was Indian territory until 1777. The earliest European settlers in this region were Indian traders. The British built Fort Prince George around 1753 as protection against the Indians, and the fort was the site of several battles in the Cherokee War of 1756. The Cherokee town of Old Seneca was later destroyed by American troops in 1776.

(...j) About 80% of the settlers of colonial SC were of English origin. Many of them came by way of Barbados and other colonies rather than directly from England. A group of Dutch settlers fron NY came to SC in 1671. Another smaller group was of French origin, mostly descendants of Huguenots, who came to the area beginning in 1680. More numerous were the Scottish dissenters, who were brought in beginning in 1682, and the Germans, who arrived during the 18th cemtury.

Negroes consituted a majority of the population from early colonial times until 1930. Indian wars drove most of the Indians from the state, but there are still a few Catawba Indians in York County. The earliest settlements were on the coastal plain low country. Pushed by the desire to escape the Revolutionary War and pulled by the desire for land, settlers eventually poured into the Piedmont up country. They were of Ulster Scots, German, and Welsh decent. The major port of entry to SC was Charleston.

historical/records note:
Pendleton County was created in 1789 as a division (no government) of Ninety-Six District and continued as a geographic division of Ninety-six until 1791. In 1791, Pendleton County was annexed to Washington District.
In 1798, "Pendleton County" became "Pendleton District" and no longer part of Washington District. In 1826, Pendleton District was abolished by being divided into Anderson and Pickens Districts. Availability and Location of Records Pendleton District records are still mostly available, as far as I know, having been transferred to Anderson District, I think, or both Anderson and Pickens. Census records 1790 thru 1820 are all extant
