Jean-Baptiste was born on December 2nd, 1803.  Jean-Baptiste's father was Martinus-Joseph BAECKELANDT and his mother was Jeanne-Catharina VAN LAECKE.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph BAECKELANDT and Barbara DE VRIENDT.  He had three brothers and a sister, named Ferdinand, Pieter Joannes, Joannes-Francies and Francisca.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 84 on August 17th, 1888.
