1901 census gives his age as 66.  Inthe 1911 Census, he gives his age as 76, which confirms a year of birth of 1835.  But, I have found a Hugh Coulter's death in the Civil Deaths Index at Derry FHC, aged 74, registered in the June Quarter of 1922 in Ballymoney.  This really ought to be him as he disappears from the GVRBs at the same time but the age cannot be right because that would make him born in 1848 which is too late for the birth of his first child in 1860.  I am going to accept that this is him but stick with the age given in the 1901 census.

Searched Civil Records Deaths Index at Derry FHC for Hugh, registered in either Ballymoney or Coleraine from 1901 to 1919 inclusive but did not find him.  Hugh said he was 66 in the 1901 census so we should expect him to go toes up within ten years anyway.  On the other hand, he may have lived well into his 80s and I will need to trawl as far as the 1920s!

I did a search of Civil Records at Derry FHC for Margaret (Bellingham) Coulter, with no success.  I was searching 1891 to 1901 because she was not recorded in the household with her husband, Hugh Coulter, in the 1901 census, so I assumed she was dead.  But, having looked at it again, I see that Hugh said he was “married” rather than widowed.  So, maybe she was away overnight on the night of the census.

She was indeed away.  She was staying with her son-in-law, David Hunter and his wife, her daughter, Maryetta Coulter Hunter.

Date of Birth from Public Record Office of Northern Ireland via Al Luce. (1901 census gives her as 32!! = Date of Birth of 1869 = first son, my grandfather, Tommy Gordon,  at age 15!!).  

Margaret Knox says Edna Peden remembers Jane Coulter and Edna was born in 1931.  So she must have died after this date.  But Janelle Stephenson says: "that her mother (Martha) was unable to attend her grannys (Jane Coulter) funeral as she was having a baby. She said that was Gordon so 1926."
Janelle was wrong, Edna was right.  Found Jane's death in the Civil Records Deaths Index at Derry FHC in the March Quarter of 1935.  Her age was given as 72.
Sue Coulter: "Janelle said that her grandmother Jane Coulter was buried at Kilrea Presbyterian Church, and she thinks there is a head stone."
