Source: mentioned in his father's will where he is left the family farm - on condition that he does not marry!  If he does, the farm is to be sold and the proceeds divided between him and his sister, Sarah Ann Moody.

The 1901 census shows he hadn't married by that time and he was living with the sister, Sarah Ann Moody, who was widowed and her two daughters:
