Robert was born on November 20th, 1855.  Robert's father was James Knox and his mother was Nancy Coulter.  His maternal grandparents were John 1834 Vow Coulter and Mary Hanna. He had a brother and two sisters, named James, Catherine and Matilda.  He was the oldest of the four children.
