  Lloyd S. Gray Sr., 81, a veteran U.S. Air Force pilot who lived to see his two best dreams come true, died Saturday at
  Windham Hospital.
  The dreams, said close relatives, were to be a pilot and to marry his girlfriend, Lucille Mae Kelley. He became a pilot
  first, in 1944, and 29 years later married Lucille.
  Gray was in the service for 23 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel. In World War II, Gray, then 21, flew 34
  missions over Germany and one over France as a pilot in the B-17, known as the flying fortress, part of the 8th Air
  Force.
  He later served for seven years as a communications officer in the security service in Japan and San Antonio, Texas.
  For another seven years, Gray served as aircraft commander in the Strategic Air Command piloting B-47 bombers. In
  civilian life, Gray was a technical writer for two companies, including Pratt & Whitney Corp.
  Gray was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Willimantic. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Hebron, the Retired
  Officers' Association, the Hebron Historical Society, Hebron V.F.W. Post 8776 and American Legion Post No. 95.
  Gray is survived by several children and 10 grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Burial with full military honors will be in St.
  Peter's Cemetery

  GRAY, Lloyd S. Sr., Lloyd S. Gray, Sr., 81, husband of the late Lucille Mae Kelley Gray of Hope Valley Rd.
  Hebron passed away on Saturday, (January 15, 2005) at the Windham Hospital. He was born on Sept. 3, 1923 in Willimantic son of the late Harold and Susan Miner Gray. Two of his youthful dreams came true when he became a military pilot in 1944 and married Lucille Mae Kelley in 1973. On Nov. 1, 1965 he retired from the U.S. Air Force with 23 and a half years of service attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. At the age of 21 he completed 34 missions over Germany and one mission over France as a First Pilot on a flying forties B-17 in the Eighth Air Force, served as a Communications Officer for seven yrs. in the Air Force Security Service in Japan and in San Antonio, TX. The next seven yrs. were spent in the Strategic Air Command as aircraft commander on medium Bombers B-47. His last assignment was Assistant to Director of Special weapons Headquarters in San Antonio Air Material area.
  After retirement 1965 to 1986 he worked as a Technical Writer for Arro Corporation and Pratt & Whitney Corporation. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Hebron,The retired Officers Association,Hebron Historical Society, St. Peter's Church Cemetery Association, Life time member of Hebron V.F.W. Post 8776, and the American Legion Post # 95. Surviving son,Lloyd S. Gray Jr. of Charlottesville,VA.; step son, Jonathan Loeser of New York; five daughters, Gloria A. Jones, Leslie M.
  Gray,Carol W. Jones, all of Wichita,KS. Laurie M. Gray of Hebron; a sister, Mary Ventres of East Haddam; stepdaughter, Annie C. Loeser of Windham; ten grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Kirkham. Funeral Service will be on Monday 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Church St., Rt. 85 Hebron. Burial with full military honors in St.
  Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours will be TODAY from 6-8 p.m. at the Belmont Funeral Home, 144 South Main St., Colchester. Those who wish may make donations to St.
  Peter' s Episcopal Church in his memory.
