James' father was James Bellingham and his mother was Catherine Cunningham.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Bellingham and Anne Agnes/Nancy Dempsey. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Elen and Agness.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
