Elmer G. Towers, 87
Former Mass. property appraiser
VENICE. Fla. - Elmer G. Towers, of 1209 Nokomis av., a former property appraiser for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, died Tuesday at home. He was 87.
Born In South Orange, N.J., Mr. Towers moved to Wellesley Hills, Mass., in 1930 and lived there until 1962 when he moved to Venice. During the 1950s he was a property appraiser for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works. He also owned Wellesley Plumbing and Heating Co. during the 1930s and 1940s. He had spent the summers at Mattapoisett, Mass., since 1936.
Mr. Towers was an Army lieutenant in World War I. He was a charter member of the Venice United Church of Christ and a former member of the Masonic Lodge in South Orange, N.J. He leaves his wife, Gertrude (LaVigne); a son. Herbert G. Towers of Fort Salonga, N.Y.; a daughter, Janet T. Gowing of Wilbraham. Mass., and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Monday in Venice Congregational Church here.
