Samuel R. Dewey, ex-resident, dies
Samuel Rodgers Dewey, 46, of Rosedale, Miss., a metal products company executive and former Birmingham resident, died Thursday after a sudden illness while vacationing in Hawaii. He was son-in-law of the late Dr. Henry M. Edmonds, widely known Birmingham pastor and writer. Services will be held in Birmingham, time and place to be announced by Johns-Ridout's. Mr. Dewey was secretary and treasurer of Alabama Metal Products Co., with headquarters here and in Rosedale. HE MOVED TO Rosedale in 1954 after living here about 20 years. A former Rosedale town councilman and board of education member, he was a member and former president of Rosedale Rotary Club and a member of Birmingham Country Club and country clubs at Cleveland, Miss., and Rosedale. Mr. Dewey was a member of Rosedale Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Edmonds Dewey, who is the daughter of Dr. Edmonds; a daughter, Miss Eleanor Jon Dewey of Rosedale; a son. Samuel Rogers Dewey Jr. of Rosedale; and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Satchwell of Wilson. N. C., and Mrs. Arthur W. Wigley of Easton, Md.
