Robert Dick Brownlee obituary

obituary
DEATH OF REV. R.D. BROWNLEE. – On Tuesday the Rev. R.D. Brownlee died at Corra Lynn, and the intelligence, which reached Kirkcaldy on Wednesday morning, has been received with much sorrow. Mr. Brownlee was ordained minister of Bethelfield U.P. Church, Kirkcaldy, in 1862, in succession to the Rev. Mr. Thomson, and after a useful ministry, extending over many years, he accepted a call to the English Presbyterian Church, Bournemouth – no doubt hoping that a change of air would be beneficial to his health. After labouring for some time in his new sphere with great success, his health continued to decline, and latterly broke down, when he was compelled to resign his charge. Mr. Brownlee was an eloquent and earnest preacher, and during his ministry in Kirkcaldy he kept intact and in a most prosperous state one of the largest Dissenting congregations in the burgh. Deceased was likewise a man of high scholarly attainments, and during the last years of his life he has contributed with his pen to the religious literature of the day. He leaves a widow and family, for who in their sad bereavement much sympathy is felt.
