   Drowning Tragedy
RENFREW MAN’S BODY FOUND IN CLYDE
The mystery of the disappearance of a well-known Renfrew man was solved on Saturday morning last when his body was recovered from the Clyde near John Brown’s shipyard.
The victim of the tragedy, who had been missing for about a fortnight, was James Paterson, who resided at 3 West Avenue, and was an employee of the India Rubber Works, Inchinnan, in which he was a shop steward.
An enthusiastic trade unionist, deceased was very popular with his fellow-workers, and was never happier than when he was championing the cause of the under dog.
His home was destroyed in a concentrated air attack on Clydeside in March, and we learn that he played a noble part during the blitz.
“When the raid was at its height,” a neighbour told our representative, “he left the shelter and went about fearlessly smothering several incendiaries with sand.
“I was shocked to learn of his untimely end for when I saw him he had been in good spirits, although badly shaken as the result of blast from a bomb.
“I’ll always remember him as one of the bravest fire-fighters in our group.”
Deceased was married a few years ago, but had no family. To the sorrowing widow much sympathy will be extended in her great loss.
The cited information was sourced from Electronic Document (email, file) published on May 9th, 1941 The author/originator was The Renfrew Press. This citation is considered to be direct and primary evidence used, or by dominance of the evidence.
