Baxter Aikman marriage

Kirk session record, transcribed by researcher
We are therefore pretty certain that Margaret Hamilton was Douglas's 2nd wife and that his first wife was not Mary but Margaret Aikman - in the kirksessions there are details concerning the fees received for the proclamation of marriage and on January 8th 1748 there is an entry "Received of proclamation money from Douglas Baxter and Margaret Aikman"  and the sum of £1.10s - it then looks as if there were further monies extracted on 17,24,31 January and 7,14 and 17 Feb with sums of £1, 12s, 17s, £1 7s, 15s and finally £1 - a total of £7 1s which was a considerable sum in those days!  That would tie in with the births of the two children from that marriage, Margaret's death (date not yet known) and Douglas's remarriage in 1752 to Margaret Hamilton.

We can therefore safely assume that Douglas and Margaret No 1 were marrried in late February or March of 1748.
The cited information was sourced from Electronic Document (email, file) published in December 2008 The author/originator was John and Mary Anne Baxter. This citation is considered to be direct and primary evidence used, or by dominance of the evidence.
