Helen's father was James White and her mother was Mary Galloway.  Her maternal grandparents were Robert Galloway and Helen McLauchlan. She had two sisters named Agnes and Agnes.  She was the oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother named Robert.  She died at the age of 74 in 1937 in Blackburn (West Lothian).
