Margaret's father was Thomas Webster and her mother was Elizabeth Livingstone. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Webster and Margaret Baxter. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, David, Hugh, James, James, George, Margaret, Fanny and Agnes. She was the fourth oldest of the ten children. She died at the age of 1 in 1857 in Mid Calder.
