Robert's father was William Wason and his mother was Susan Flinn. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Wason and Agnes Hall; his maternal grandparents were William Flinn and Mary Carson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Hugh, William, Hugh, Mary, Agnes, Georgina and Margaret. He was the second youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 48 on March 30th, 1919 in Philadelphia.³
