Andrew's father was John Walkinshaw and his mother was Annie Taylor. His maternal grandparents were Andrew Taylor and Ann Scoffield. He had four brothers and five sisters, named George, Maxwell, Barbara, William, Elizabeth, Ann, Jannet, Helen and Isabella. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 16 on May 15th, 1863 in St. Quivox.
