Peter's father was Peter Turner Sr. and his mother was Mary Russell.  His paternal grandparents were William Turner and Jean Russell; his maternal grandparents were John Russell and Isabella Brownlee. He had three brothers and five sisters, named William, John, Archibald, Jean, Mary, Ann, Janet and Agnes.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died due to diabetes at the age of 78 on May 12th, 1907 in Toronto.³
