Jean's father was Peter Turner Sr. and her mother was Mary Russell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Turner and Jean Russell; her maternal grandparents were John Russell and Isabella Brownlee. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, John, Archibald, Peter, Mary, Ann, Janet and Agnes.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 69 on March 2nd, 1888 in Kirkoswald.  She was buried in Girvan.^3 3
