Isabella's father was Richard Turner and her mother was Isabella Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were John Turner and Janet Marshall. She had seven brothers and a sister, named John, Robert, Richard, Robert, Peter, George, William and Janet.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
