Janet's father was William Tours and her mother was Margaret Colquhoun.  Her paternal grandparents were William Tours and Janet Fulton. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William, John, Walter, Margaret, Isabella, Cecillia, Elisabeth and Christina.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.  She died before 1841.¹
