Isabella's father was Archibald Thomson and her mother was Margaret Paterson. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Thomson and Helen Cunningham; her maternal grandparents were Theophilus (John) John Paterson and Helen Cunningham. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Andrew, John, Alexander, Helen, Alison and Agnes. She was the second youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 50 on December 26th, 1906 in Broxburn. She was buried on December 28th, 1906 in Uphall.
