Agnes was born in March 1714 in Kilsyth and her baptism took place there on March 15th, 1714. Agnes' father was William Shaw and her mother was Jean Cleland.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Shaw and Agnes Andersone. She had seven brothers and a sister, named James, Robert, Robert, William, William, David, Jean and Christian.  She was the youngest of the nine children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William and Jean.
