Ann was born on April 13th, 1789 in St. Quivox and her baptism took place there on April 14th, 1789.  Ann's father was James Scoffield and her mother was Jane Bone.  Her maternal grandparents were James Bone and Janet Duncan. She had a brother and six sisters, named James, Janet, Ann, Mary, Euphemia, Jean and Euphemia.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
