William was born on August 18th, 1872 in Govan.

William's father was David Robertson and his mother was Mary Eaglesome Smith Frew. His paternal grandparents were James Robertson and Ann McMurran; his maternal grandparents were John Frew and Janet Shaw. He had a brother and four sisters, named James, Janet, Annie, Mary and Robertson. He was the youngest of the six children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Charles, James and Margaret. He died from cancer, Carcinoma of the left thigh, duration: 1 year secondary metastasis, at the age of 79 on April 15th, 1952 in Renfrew.¹
