Thomas' father was Thomas Robertson and his mother was Elizabeth Armour. His paternal grandparents were Thomas John Robertson and Elizabeth Jamieson. He had a brother and four sisters, named James, Mary, Elizabeth, Agnes and Agnes. He was the oldest of the six children. He died due to heart disease, morbus cordis, at the age of 66 on February 27th, 1914 in Ayr.³
