Annie's father was Jonathon Robertson and her mother was Helen Tait. Her paternal grandparents were James Robertson and Ann McMurran. She had six brothers and four sisters, named James, George, John, Hugh, Robert, Edmund, Catherine, Margaret, Mary and Susan. She was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
