Eliza was born on December 27th, 1855 in Glasgow.

Eliza's father was James Rennie and her mother was Catherine Stobo. Her paternal grandparents were John Rennie and Euphemia McKichan. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Catherine and Jessie. She was the oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 45 in 1900 in Glasgow.
