Catherine's father was John Rennie and her mother was Euphemia McKichan. Her paternal grandparents were James Rennie and Janet Stronach. She had three brothers and a sister, named James, John, Archibald and Jessie. She was the second oldest of the five children. She had a half-brother named Andrew. She died before 1841.¹
