Alston's father was John McKichan Rennie and his mother was Angelet (Irene) Irene Coe Kennel. His paternal grandparents were John Rennie and Euphemia McKichan. He had a brother named John. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 72 on April 23rd, 1953 in Florida. He was buried in April 1953 in Florida.³⁴⁵
