Ross was born in 1885 in Glasgow.1  Ross' father was John Pritchard and his mother was Euphemia McKechan Rennie.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Rennie and Janet Ross. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Alexander, David and Jessie.  He was the youngest of the five children.
