David's father was John Pritchard and his mother was Euphemia McKechan Rennie. His maternal grandparents were Alexander Rennie and Janet Ross. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, Alexander, Edward, Ross and Jessie. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 79 in 1958 in Springburn.
