James Paterson

James was born on June 3rd, 1821 in Livingston. James' father was Theophilus John Paterson and his mother was Helen Cunningham. His paternal grandparents were George Paterson and Christian Philp; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Cuningham and Margaret Brash. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, George, John, Malcolm, Margaret, Jean and Helen. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 56 on December 12th, 1877 in Broxburn. He was buried in Uphall.¹

- James Paterson b 3 Jun 1821 in Livingston West Lothian marries Elizabeth Mills b abt 1830 in Whitburn West Lothian. They married 6 Mar 1854 in Kirknewton and East Calder Midlothian. In 1881 Elizabeth is at Stankards Cottages Uphall, a widow, with John 27, Henry 23, Alexander 15 and George 11. James died 12 Dec 1877 and Elizabeth died 7 Apr 1914. They are buried in Strathbrock Churchyard with James’s parents.
