Jane's father was Hugh Montgomerie and her mother was Jean Millar Stevenson. Her maternal grandparents were David Stevenson and Janet Hamilton. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Archibald, David, Montgomerie, Isabella, Janet and Jane. Jane and Montgomerie were twins. She died in 1868 in Glasgow.
