Allan was born on January 26th, 1818 in Prestwick and his baptism took place there on February 6th, 1818 conducted by M Crighton.1  Allan's father was Jonathon McMurren and his mother was Susan McAllan. He had a brother and two sisters, named David, Ann and Susanna.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
