Richard Marshall

Richard was born in December 1812 in Shotts and his baptism took place there on December 6th, 1812.¹²

Richard's father was James Marshall and his mother was Elizabeth Hamilton. His paternal grandparents were James Marshall and Margaret Mitchell; his maternal grandparents were John Hamilton and Elizabeth Fleming. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Margaret and Agness. He died at the age of 85 in 1897 in Closeburn.

- From 1841 to 1851 Richard's occupation was Farmer 90 Acres Emp 2 Labs in agriculture for Peatpots farm.³

    - inherited £1000 from his uncle John Marshall
      His sons also were entitled to a sum of £100 "should any of the sons of James, John or Richard appear to have abilities and inclination to follow out any of the learned professions"
  From 1881 to 1891 his occupation was retired farmer in agriculture.²
