Alexander's father was Robert Mann and his mother was Agnes Campbell Fraser.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Isabella Adamson. He had two brothers and four sisters, named James, Robert, Janet, Elizabeth, Isobel and Agnes.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 75 in February 1918 in Carlisle.
