Isabella's father was John Kerr and her mother was Mary Walker. Her maternal grandparents were John Walker and Isabella Neil. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Robert, William, John, Elizabeth and Mary. She was the third youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 86 in 1947 in Midlothian.
