Julian was born in July 1782 in Kirknewton and her baptism took place there on July 30th, 1786.  Julian's father was John Johnston and her mother was Julian Gillis.  Her maternal grandparents were Alexander Gillis and Elisabeth Auld. She had two brothers named John and Alexander.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She died due to a medical problem, Dropsy, at the age of 79 on December 30th, 1861 in Ratho.1
