Jane, known as Jeanie, was born in June 1880 in Tarbolton.1 2  Jeanie's father was David Hay and her mother was Susanah McMurran.  Her maternal grandparents were David McMurran and Allison McClymont. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, David, Jonathan, William, Alice, Agnes, Annie and Annie.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 30 in 1910 in Kilmarnock.
