Thomas' father was Hall Hamilton and his mother was Margaret (Maggie) Brotherton. His paternal grandparents were Hall Hamilton and Janet McKellar. He had six brothers named Hall, John, Robert, Hugh, Fred and William. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 72 in 1953 in New Jersey. He was buried in New Jersey.
