William's father was William Galt and his mother was Margaret Towers. His maternal grandparents were William Tours and Margaret Colquhoun. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John, James, James, Margaret, Kate, Cecillia and Tina. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 74 on March 5th, 1934 in Vancouver. He was buried in Vancouver.²³
