Janet's father was Archibald Galloway and her mother was Janet Galbraith.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Galloway and Helen McLauchlan. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Archibald, James, John, Mary, Ellen, Janet and Margaret.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died in 1859 in Falkirk.
