Andrew's father was James Doig and his mother was Alison (Alice) McMurran.  His maternal grandparents were John McMurran and Agnes Robertson. He had three brothers and a sister, named George, John, James and Agnes.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died in 1872 in Kilmarnock.
